The last two weeks were something else, so this week
I’ve spent most of my energy just hanging on to the mattress.
I swear, sometimes I get so washed out I feel like I’m at risk of
falling off my bed and never being able to find my way back again.
But I have to say, If I ever had a good reason to feel this rubbish,
this week is pretty high up there on my list of weeks
that were worth suffering for. 😃
Hi, I'm Evalena! Do you wanna be my friend?
Two weeks ago, my twins turned 30. Thirty! How’s that even possible?! I swear it was only a couple of Yules back they were still a pair of bright-eyed and bushy-tailed six-year-olds, driving me up the
wall tree with their Chip’n’Dale antics. 🤣 Oh, well… I celebrated my give-birthday here at home with T1, and T2 joined us through a series of video calls from Sweden. It was sweet and sad and sad and sweet and sweet and sad. And it was both physically and emotionally draining.
A week later, last Friday to be precise, we had a second celebration, and this time it was my birthday that was on the agenda. But for me, the bigger issue was that I had pencilled the day in as the Dream Date for the unveiling of my Big Blogging Experiment. Then, as all days tend to do, all three birthdays and my great unveiling came, went and whistled past us. And here we are…
Hi, I’m Evalena! I’m a bona fide time optimist (a great Swedish expression!) and overachiever. I frequently try to accomplish far more than my body, or brain, will permit; and I never seem to learn
my that lesson. Mind you, I’m not entirely convinced that I want to learn this particular lesson. I kind of like the facts that I never willingly accept defeat, and that I always try to push myself (and others) to be better, and reach higher, than what seemed possible.
Anyway, after all the excitement of the past two weeks, as I tried to explain in the intro above, this week I’ve been about as fresh as a pooped out plum preserve on a midden heap. And, I dare say, about as handsome. But time waits for nobody, as Freddie taught us, and professional bloggers cannot afford to rest on their laurels. With that in mind, I snuggled up under my duvet, put my phone to good use and tried to blow some life back into my social media game.
WELL, I'VE NEVER HEARD ANYTHING LIKE IT!
My blog header and the URL. It’s here. It’s open. It’s happening…
Since the beginning of the corona lockdown, the only social media I have engaged in has been the Spoonieverse accounts. Our people were already struggling to survive as things were before the Coro-no-no virus reared its ugly head among us, and this whole year has done its best to grind us all to the bone. I have tried my best to be there for my tribe siblings, and together we have made sure to look out for those within our reach. It has been, and continues to be, gruesome. And in that light, I have put everything and everybody else on the backburner.
Because that’s all we can do in times like these. We have to batten down the hatches and weather the storm to survive.
Yesterday, however, I started with my Instagram accounts. First, I went through all the different profile pictures and updated those that were off. (I’m making a distinct “logo” for each of my blogs, but I’m trying to make sure they are all visibly related. I’ll talk more about that in an upcoming post.) As my brain operates on some weird random access protocol these days, I keep a record of all the changes and updates I make in a spreadsheet. I’m pretty sure nothing would get done if it wasn’t for all those little protocols I have put in place. It saddens me, to a degree, but at the same time I marvel at my luck. I can’t even begin to imagine what my life would have been like today had I been born 100, or even 50, years earlier…
But I digress.
I have decided to put most of my social media eggs into the @evalenastyf in English and @frkstyf in Swedish baskets over the next three months. The former was my very first Instagram account, and it has remained the one where I post pretty much anything related to myself and my family. Unless it’s something particularly nerdy. I tend to file all the nerdy family gaming and pop culture stuff under Wolf & Cubs, or @Ulfrheims as our cyber home is called.
As I was going through, and making updates, to the different accounts, I noticed that I had a few new faces following me. It always surprises me, when I’ve been AWOL for a while, that I still have a few followers when I return. New followers, well that’s just like the cream cheese frosting on a carrot cake. Gorgeous!
For those new faces, and for any further newcomers who decide to get on board before the end of the year, I decided to put together a little introduction and let’s get to know each other series. Starting today, it will run if not daily, so at least a few days per week until we have managed to our group of individuals into a well-oiled crew of sailors and merry-makers.
Sounds good? Right, here we go then…
Hello 👋 and welcome on board. I thought I should make an effort and do the social thing which, if my memory serves me right, includes introducing oneself to newcomers. So, without further ado…
As my name suggests, I’m Evalena and I’m a 50-plus-something-year-old Swedish expat living in a Queen size bed currently located in the eastern outskirts of London. I’m a retired educator, consultant and coach; a knowsy roll model and a crafty Gamergran. I am also a fairly useless human being who has decided to take my life’s worth of written content out of boxes, hard drives and anonymous blog accounts to make it readily available for human consumption. Under my own name on my own domains. This is also known as professional blogging. Or content creation.
My Big Blogging Experiment began over four years ago, but it’s only been visible for a couple of months. My goal for this year was to be able to announce this Experiment on my birthday last week. And I did! Now, I reckon it will take me another year to decorate these spaces and fill them with freshly edited content. Not only is it a big experiment, but it’s also a great adventure and you are more than welcome to tag along and see where it may lead.
Our people, in this respect, are the spoonies. The “cripples and bastards and broken things” (to quote Tyrion Lannister from The Song of Ice and Fire) of the Spoonieverse. Also known as people with disabilities and/or chronic mental or physical illness.
Hang in there, there’s we only have 91 more days of 2020 to get through now… 🤣
MEET THE AUTHOR:
After 25 years of anonymous blogging on a variety of free platforms, Evalena Styf decided to go pro and put all of her writings on a private wall. In this personal blog she primarily writes about personal and professional development; about living the dream; and about how to keep on living and loving when everything seems to be falling apart.
Using her knack for storytelling, Evalena dives into her pool of personal and professional experiences to bring a wide range of difficult and diverse topics to the surface; e.g. funkophobia, social exclusion, chafing societal norms, mental & physical health issues, racism, poverty, identity, creativity, nerdiness, lusting for life and longing for death.

FANCY A CHAT?
What are you doing to help you deal with Corona?
I spend almost all my time in bed, and a good deal of it I even hide under the duvet. But guess what, I’d still like to get to know you better. If you have a minute, please slide into (one of) the comment sections and let me know how you’re coping with the madness that is 2020. Or let me know what you thought of something you read in here or somewhere else. Ask me anything, and let me know if there’s something else you’d like me to write about. Anything goes.
As always, if you don’t want your response to show up on the site, just start your message with the word ANONYMOUS and it will be our secret.
CAN YOU HELP?
If you want to share posts or quote parts of them in other contexts, remember to add me as the source and make sure you include my name, the title of the article, where and when it was published.
Here is an example of what this could look like:
Styf, Evalena. 2020. Article Title. All of Me. [Blog] 1 januari. http://evalena.styf.co.uk/YYYY/MM/DD/title-of-article/ (Accessed YYYY-MM-DD).
Another way you can support me and help me grow my blogs is to hook up with me on social media. Give me a follow on facebook, instagram, pinterest and twitter; och like-share-comment whenever you see an update from me. If you have an open profile with you name on it I'll follow you back as long as our values align.
If you check out my my linktree, you'll find that I have a number of accounts. To follow the one where I post updates about everything I write in English, you want to go to Evalena Styf on facebook, Evalena Styf on instagram and, Evalena Styf on twitter.
I only have one account on pinterest and I use it to post a new pin every time I upload a new post. But my account, Evalena on pinterest, also features a wide range of boards covering topics from Arts & Crafts to Zoom calls.
My Monthly Missives, aka newsletters, will be rolled out within the next couple of months. Sign up now to make sure you won't miss out and to secure your special gift that I'll be sending out to each subscriber who signed up before the launch date. Signing up is lemon squeezy - all you need to do is to put your first name and email address into this form.
As I transition into professional blogging, I'll happily accept any offer of help and support to get wind in my sails. Most of all, I need help growing this blog. I'm well aware of the difficulty getting blog portal readers to tag along to a private domain, but with your help we may be able to grow the numbers enough for google and the other search engines to recognise me. And that is something of a requirement for pro bloggers. It's a "without google's spotlight you don't exist" kinda thing.
When you read, share, like, comment, follow and subscribe, you make me ridiculously happy and grateful. A frame of mind that makes me work harder, which in turn means I churn out more blog posts. Winner, winner chicken dinner! =)
